Use templateIn January 2026, the co-founder of Lemon Squeezy (lemonsqueezy.com) posted an update that every seller weighing it against Framekit should read first.
The team had spent the year building Stripe Managed Payments, Stripe's own merchant-of-record product, support replies had slowed and product updates had thinned, and the stated goal was to give Lemon Squeezy users an easy way to migrate to Stripe.
Lemon Squeezy still takes payments, still files your VAT and still charges 5% plus 50 cents. But the question has changed from "is it good" to "where is it going".
That matters for anyone comparing Lemon Squeezy vs Framekit to sell presets, LUTs, templates or ebooks, because the two answer different problems. Lemon Squeezy becomes the legal seller and handles global tax.
Framekit gives you a store inside a website you own, charges the buyer through your own Stripe account and leaves tax with you.
A merchant of record is a company that sells your product to the buyer in its own name, so it collects and remits the sales tax and VAT and handles disputes, while you receive the proceeds minus its fee; Lemon Squeezy is one, and Framekit is not.
Lemon Squeezy is the better choice under roughly $1,100 a month in sales or whenever you need VAT and sales tax handled for you, subscriptions, license keys or affiliates, because its 5% plus $0.50 already includes card processing and tax compliance.
Framekit becomes the cheaper choice above that, $1,316 a year all-in at $2,000 a month against $1,614 on Lemon Squeezy and $2,733 against $4,034 at $5,000, and it is the only one of the two that comes with a full portfolio site.
The trade-off is tax: on Framekit you are the seller.
Full disclosure: Framekit is our product, so read the Lemon Squeezy sections knowing we have a side; we re-verified every Lemon Squeezy fee, payout term and refund rule on its own docs on 12 October 2026 and rebuilt this page around them, replacing the July 2026 version.
How We Compared Lemon Squeezy and Framekit
Every Lemon Squeezy figure on this page comes from Lemon Squeezy's own pricing page and help docs read on 12 October 2026, every Framekit figure from Framekit's pricing page and its shipped checkout code, and nothing comes from a test purchase.
Read at the source. Lemon Squeezy's pricing page, its docs on fees, getting paid, refunds and chargebacks, payment methods, adding products and the My Orders page, plus the 2026 update post about Stripe Managed Payments.
For Stripe: its pricing page and its documentation on refunds, disputes and payouts.
Read in the product. Framekit's store creates each payment as a direct charge on the seller's connected Stripe account, takes its percentage as an application fee on the amount after any discount code, and uses Stripe's automatic payment methods.
That is how its fee, refund and checkout rows below were filled in.
Calculated. A $29 template pack bought with a US card, sold at $500, $2,000 and $5,000 a month, which is about 17, 69 and 172 sales a month.
A second version of each table assumes half the buyers are outside the US, because both platforms add 1.5% for international payments.
Not covered. This page lists Lemon Squeezy's subscription billing, license keys and email marketing but does not weigh them in detail, because Framekit has no equivalent to compare them with.

In one lineLemon Squeezy is a better checkout and tax department, Framekit is a better website with a cheaper store, and the price of each depends on how much you sell.

What Stripe's Ownership Means in 2026
Lemon Squeezy is still running and still taking payments in October 2026, but its own January 2026 update says the team's focus has moved to Stripe Managed Payments and that the aim is an easy migration path for Lemon Squeezy users, which is the clearest signal of direction the company has given.
Stripe bought Lemon Squeezy in 2024. For a year and a half the public line was that Lemon Squeezy would keep running as its own product, and it has. The January post is more candid.
It owns that support had slowed and updates had become less frequent, calls Stripe Managed Payments the future of the merchant-of-record idea, says Managed Payments served merchants in more than 35 countries at the time, and promises public sign-up soon.
What this changes for a seller. Nothing on the day you sign up: the fees, payouts and tax handling below are all current. What changes is the planning horizon.
If you build a business on Lemon Squeezy today, plan for a migration at some point, keep your customer list exported, and keep your product files somewhere other than only inside the platform.
What it does not mean. It is not a shutdown notice, and nobody outside Stripe knows the timeline. Treat it as you would any acquired product whose team has said where its energy is going.
What Lemon Squeezy and Framekit Cost at Three Sales Levels
At $2,000 a month in sales of a $29 product, Lemon Squeezy costs $1,614 a year and Framekit Business costs $1,316 including Stripe, while at $500 a month Lemon Squeezy is cheaper at $403 against Framekit's lowest $536.
This is where most comparisons go wrong, because Lemon Squeezy's 5% includes payment processing and Framekit's percentage does not. Every figure below includes processing on both sides. Framekit's paid plans are at yearly billing ($180 for Pro, $372 for Business).
| Monthly sales | Lemon Squeezy | Framekit Free | Framekit Pro | Framekit Business |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $500 (about 17 sales) | $403 | $536 | $596 | $608 |
| $2,000 (about 69 sales) | $1,614 | $2,144 | $1,844 | $1,316 |
| $5,000 (about 172 sales) | $4,034 | $5,361 | $4,341 | $2,733 |
If half your buyers are outside the US
Both platforms add 1.5% on international payments: Lemon Squeezy on transactions outside the US, Stripe on cards issued outside the US. With half the buyers abroad, the annual figures move like this.
| Monthly sales | Lemon Squeezy | Framekit Free | Framekit Business |
|---|---|---|---|
| $500 | $448 | $581 | $653 |
| $2,000 | $1,794 | $2,324 | $1,496 |
| $5,000 | $4,484 | $5,811 | $3,183 |
The crossover to use. For a $29 product sold to US cards, Framekit Business becomes cheaper than Lemon Squeezy at about $1,111 a month in sales on yearly billing, or about $1,398 a month on monthly billing.
Below that, Lemon Squeezy is cheaper and handles your tax. Framekit's free plan never beats Lemon Squeezy on fees for a $29 product, because 5% plus Stripe's processing is more than 5% plus 50 cents.
Per sale, at four prices:
| Price | Lemon Squeezy keeps | Framekit Free keeps | Framekit Pro keeps | Framekit Business keeps |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $9 | $8.05 | $7.99 | $8.17 | $8.44 |
| $29 | $27.05 | $26.41 | $26.99 | $27.86 |
| $49 | $46.05 | $44.83 | $45.81 | $47.28 |
| $99 | $93.55 | $90.88 | $92.86 | $95.83 |
The detail hiding in Lemon Squeezy's own example. Its fees doc prices a $20 product sold to a buyer in France: $4 of VAT takes the total to $24, and the platform fee is $2.06, calculated as $0.50 plus 5% of the total plus 1.5% for an international payment.
The fee is charged on the tax as well as the price, so the seller nets $17.94. That is fair for a merchant of record doing the tax work, but it means the real rate on EU sales is higher than 5% of your price.
Run it yourselfdownload last month's orders from Lemon Squeezy, add up the platform fee column, and multiply by twelve. Then take the same gross sales, multiply by 2.9%, add 30 cents per order, and add $372 for Framekit Business billed yearly.
If the second number is lower by more than you would pay to handle your own VAT, the move is worth pricing properly.
Refunds, Chargebacks and Payouts Compared
Lemon Squeezy effectively returns its fee when you refund, because it only deducts the refunded amount minus its platform fee from your next payout, whereas Framekit keeps its percentage on a refund and Stripe keeps its processing fee.
| What happens | Lemon Squeezy | Framekit |
|---|---|---|
| You refund a $29 sale | You give back what you received; Lemon Squeezy absorbs its $1.95 fee | Framekit keeps its fee ($1.45 on Free, $0.87 on Pro, $0 on Business); Stripe keeps about $1.14 |
| Who can refund | You, from the dashboard; Lemon Squeezy may refund within 60 days to prevent chargebacks | You, from your Stripe account; Framekit marks the order refunded |
| Chargeback cost | Refunded amount minus the platform fee, plus a $15 dispute fee | Disputed amount plus Stripe's $15 dispute fee (US), plus $15 more if you counter |
| Who fights it | Lemon Squeezy builds the case | You, in Stripe; Framekit emails you and marks the order disputed |
| Payout timing | Payouts created on the 1st and 15th, paid on the 14th and 28th after a 13-day hold | Stripe's first payout typically 7 to 14 days after your first live payment, then on your Stripe schedule |
| Payout minimum | $50, rolled over until reached | None set by Framekit |
| Payout fees | Free to US banks; 1% to banks outside the US; PayPal $0.50 in the US or 3% capped at $30 elsewhere | Stripe's standard payouts carry no Framekit fee |
| Payout currency | USD, converted at the mid-market rate for non-USD banks | Your Stripe account's settlement currency |
What the payout row means in practice. A sale on the 4th of the month reaches a Lemon Squeezy seller's bank around the 28th, by Lemon Squeezy's own worked example.
On Framekit the payment is in your Stripe balance at checkout and follows Stripe's settlement timing, two business days for standard US accounts, once the first payout has cleared.
What the chargeback row means. Lemon Squeezy, as the merchant, does the dispute work, which is a genuine service. On Framekit you write the evidence yourself in Stripe.
For a $29 download, a lost dispute costs roughly the same in both places; the difference is your time.
Our refunds and chargebacks guide covers the evidence that wins digital-download disputes.
Who Handles VAT and Sales Tax
Lemon Squeezy calculates, collects and remits sales tax and VAT on every sale because it is the merchant of record, and Framekit does none of that, so on Framekit registering, charging and filing tax where you owe it is your job.
This is the largest real difference between the two products, and it is not close.
What Lemon Squeezy does. It sells your product to the buyer, adds the right VAT or sales tax for the buyer's location at checkout, files and remits it, and pays you the net.
Its pricing page describes this as taking on the liability of tax collection and calculation and paying taxes on your behalf.
What Framekit does. It creates the charge on your own Stripe account, so you are the seller on the buyer's statement. Framekit's checkout does not calculate or add tax, so any tax you owe has to sit inside your price.
When that matters. A seller outside the EU owes VAT on digital sales to EU consumers from the first sale, normally through the EU's One Stop Shop return, and non-UK sellers owe UK VAT on digital sales to UK consumers from the first sale too.
EU-based sellers have a €10,000 a year threshold for cross-border digital sales.
In the US, most states only require registration once your sales into the state pass an economic nexus threshold, commonly $100,000 a year, and many do not tax digital downloads at all.
The honest conclusion. If you sell internationally and do not want to think about VAT, Lemon Squeezy is the better fit, and its fee at $2,000 a month, about $300 a year more than Framekit Business, is a fair price for the work.
If you sell mostly at home under thresholds, the merchant-of-record service is worth less to you and the website starts to matter more.

Checkout, Payment Methods and Delivery Specs
Lemon Squeezy offers more payment methods and a better re-download experience than Framekit, including PayPal, Apple Pay, Alipay and a buyer account that always shows the latest files, while Framekit's checkout shows the Stripe methods you have enabled and delivers through a confirmation page and email links.
| Detail | Lemon Squeezy | Framekit |
|---|---|---|
| Payment methods | Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, Diners, JCB, UnionPay, PayPal, Apple Pay (Safari), Google Pay (Chrome), Alipay, WeChat Pay, Cash App Pay, bank debits | Stripe's automatic payment methods from your settings; a US buyer typically sees card, Link and Cash App Pay |
| Checkout address | Lemon Squeezy hosted checkout or an overlay on your site | framekit.ai/buy/your-site/your-product, with your name, logo and a "Powered by Framekit" line on every plan |
| Files per product | Unlimited files, up to 5GB in total | Framekit publishes no per-file ceiling or bandwidth allowance |
| Delivery after payment | Signed, throttled download links | Download on the confirmation page straight after payment |
| Coming back later | My Orders account at app.lemonsqueezy.com with a magic-link login | Order email links valid for 7 days; the seller can resend fresh links |
| New version of a file | Existing customers see new files in My Orders | Not pushed to past buyers |
| Free products | Lead magnets and pay what you want from $0 | Free products on every plan |
| Discount codes | Yes | Pro and Business, percentage or amount off |
| Upsells and abandoned carts | Bundles, upsells, abandoned-cart emails (+5% on recovered sales) | Not offered |

Two of those rows are Lemon Squeezy advantages that cost Framekit sellers real time. The My Orders account means a buyer who loses a file in year two serves themselves; on Framekit they email you.
And because Lemon Squeezy pushes new files to existing customers, a template pack you update every quarter reaches past buyers automatically. If either describes your product, weigh it.
Where Lemon Squeezy Wins
Lemon Squeezy is the better choice for sellers who want the platform to be the legal seller, for anyone selling subscriptions, software licences or anything that grows through affiliates, and for low-volume sellers, because below about $1,100 a month it is also the cheaper of the two.
Tax off your plate. Merchant of record, worldwide. For international sellers this is worth more than any fee difference on this page.
A fuller commerce toolkit. Subscriptions with free trials, usage-based billing, license key generation, an affiliate program (+3% on referred sales), pay what you want, lead magnets, bundles and upsells, abandoned-cart emails, a customer portal and email marketing that is free up to 500 subscribers.
Framekit's store has none of these beyond free products and discount codes.
More ways to pay. Up to 21 payment methods including PayPal and Apple Pay; PayPal alone matters to a meaningful slice of buyers.
Better after-sale experience. My Orders for re-downloads and automatic access to updated files.
Kinder refunds. Lemon Squeezy absorbs its own fee on a refund and fights chargebacks for you.
Cheaper at low volume. At $500 a month, $403 a year against Framekit's $536 on Free.
Verdict: if you sell software, subscriptions or to a global audience and want tax handled, Lemon Squeezy is the better tool today, with the caveat that its own team has said its future is Stripe Managed Payments. Sellers comparing it with the other merchant-of-record option should read Gumroad vs Lemon Squeezy, and anyone already on it and watching the migration news will find the best Lemon Squeezy alternatives useful.

Where Framekit Wins
Framekit wins for creators selling one-off downloads to their own audience at more than about $1,100 a month, because its Business plan removes the platform fee entirely, the money sits in their own Stripe account from the moment of sale, and the store lives inside a portfolio site that Lemon Squeezy does not offer.
Framekit is an AI website builder that includes a digital-download store, client galleries, Frame.io-style video review and Slides decks on one account, with storage pooled across them: 10GB on Free, 50GB on Starter, 300GB on Pro and 2TB on Business.
The texture. You add a product, upload the file, set a price, and it appears in two places: as a product section on your Framekit site and as a direct buy link at framekit.ai/buy that works anywhere, with or without a site.
Products are unlimited on every plan, and free products work as lead magnets.
The number that matters0% platform fee on Business, from the first sale. At $5,000 a month that is $2,733 a year including Stripe, against $4,034 on Lemon Squeezy.
The standout detailthe fee is calculated on the price after a discount code and never on tax, because Framekit adds no tax. On a launch weekend at 30% off, the fee follows the discounted price.
The gotchayou are the merchant. Framekit does not calculate, collect or remit VAT or sales tax, keeps its percentage when you refund, does not push updated files to past buyers, and sends download links that expire after 7 days.
The checkout opens at framekit.ai/buy, not on your own domain, on every plan.
Skip it ifyou need subscriptions, license keys, affiliates, upsells or abandoned-cart emails, or you sell internationally and want tax handled.

Verdict: for a photographer, filmmaker or designer selling presets, LUTs or templates to their own followers, Framekit is the cheaper store above roughly $1,100 a month and the only option here that gives the store a real website around it.
The Third Option: Stripe Managed Payments
Stripe Managed Payments is Stripe's own merchant-of-record product, built by the Lemon Squeezy team, and it is worth knowing about because it is where Lemon Squeezy has said its users will eventually be offered a migration.
Stripe's documentation describes it as a way to sell digital products such as software and downloads with Stripe handling sales tax, VAT and GST compliance in more than 80 countries, plus fraud prevention, dispute management and transaction-level customer support.
Stripe's pricing page lists it at 3.5% per successful transaction on top of Stripe's standard payment fees, which for a $29 US card sale works out at about $2.16, leaving $26.84, slightly less than Lemon Squeezy's $27.05.
It is not a website or a store builder, and Framekit's checkout does not use it, so it does not change the Framekit side of this comparison. It is the option to watch if you want a merchant of record backed directly by Stripe and are comfortable building your own checkout pages.
Selling From a Real Site, Not Just a Checkout
The reason creators compare Lemon Squeezy with Framekit at all is the website: Lemon Squeezy gives you a checkout and a hosted storefront, and Framekit gives you a multi-page site where the products sit next to the work that sells them.
For visual products that context carries weight. A LUT pack sells better beside the graded film it came from; a template pack sells beside the designs made with it.
On Framekit the product is a block on any page, so it can sit under a case study, inside a portfolio grid or at the end of a tutorial post, and every page is indexed under your own domain from the Starter plan.
Lemon Squeezy's storefront is clean and quick to set up, but it is a store, not a site.

If you already have a site you love and only need a checkout bolted on, Lemon Squeezy's overlay does that well. If you do not, Framekit gives you both.
There is also a middle path: build the site on Framekit and point a button at a Lemon Squeezy checkout for the products where its tax handling matters most.
A plain link works on any plan; the Lemon Squeezy overlay script needs custom code, which Framekit allows from Pro.

Moving From Lemon Squeezy to Framekit: A Checklist
Switching from Lemon Squeezy to Framekit takes an afternoon for a small catalogue, and the step that needs the most thought is tax, because the day your first Framekit sale goes through you become the merchant for it.
| Step | What to do | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Export orders and customers from Lemon Squeezy | Your buyer list is the asset that does not come back |
| 2 | Download every product file, image and description | There is no importer between the two |
| 3 | List what you sell that Framekit cannot: subscriptions, license keys, affiliate-driven products | Those stay on Lemon Squeezy or move to another merchant of record |
| 4 | Decide your tax setup before launch: EU OSS, UK VAT, US states where you have nexus | From the first Framekit sale you are the seller |
| 5 | Connect a Stripe account in Framekit | Payments land there; the first payout typically takes 7 to 14 days |
| 6 | Recreate products, prices and any free lead magnets | Unlimited products on every plan |
| 7 | Rebuild discount codes on Pro or Business | Not available on Free or Starter |
| 8 | Swap checkout links in bios, videos and newsletters | Old links keep selling through Lemon Squeezy until you change them |
| 9 | Leave Lemon Squeezy products live for past buyers | Their My Orders access depends on it |
| 10 | Pick a plan by volume: Free under $780 a month, Business above it | The 5% fee equals Business at $780 a month |

How to Choose Between Lemon Squeezy and Framekit
Take these questions in order, because the first three test capabilities rather than prices, and a yes to any of them means Lemon Squeezy (or another merchant of record) before the fee tables even matter.
1. Do you sell subscriptions, software licences or anything that grows through affiliates? If yes, Lemon Squeezy. Framekit sells one-off downloads only. If not, go to question 2.
2. Do you sell meaningfully into the EU, UK or other VAT countries and want none of the filing? If yes, Lemon Squeezy, or watch Stripe Managed Payments. If not, go to question 3.
3. Are you under about $1,100 a month in sales? If yes, Lemon Squeezy is cheaper as well as handling tax; stay or start there. If not, go to question 4.
4. Do you need a portfolio site, client galleries or review links as well as a store? If yes, Framekit, because they share one account and one storage pool. If not, go to question 5.
5. Does the migration news worry you? If you would rather not build on a product whose team has said its future is elsewhere, Framekit Business is the cheaper home above $1,100 a month, provided you are ready to handle tax.

Is Framekit cheaper than Lemon Squeezy?
Framekit is cheaper than Lemon Squeezy above roughly $1,100 a month in sales on its $39 Business plan, and more expensive below it.
For a $29 product sold to US cards, Lemon Squeezy costs $403 a year at $500 a month, $1,614 at $2,000 and $4,034 at $5,000; Framekit's cheapest plan costs $536, $1,316 and $2,733, Stripe processing included.
Does Lemon Squeezy's 5% + 50c include Stripe fees?
Yes. Lemon Squeezy's fee covers card processing, currency conversion and tax handling, so there is no separate processing charge, though it adds 1.5% for transactions outside the US, 1.5% for PayPal and 0.5% for subscriptions.
Framekit's 5%, 3% or 0% does not include processing, so Stripe's 2.9% plus 30 cents for US cards comes on top.
What extra fees does Lemon Squeezy charge?
Lemon Squeezy adds 1.5% for international transactions, 1.5% for PayPal, 0.5% for subscription payments, 5% on sales recovered by abandoned-cart emails and 3% on affiliate referrals.
Payouts to US banks are free, payouts to banks outside the US cost 1%, and PayPal payouts cost $0.50 in the US or 3% capped at $30 elsewhere.
Does Lemon Squeezy or Framekit keep its fee when I refund?
Lemon Squeezy deducts only the refunded amount minus its platform fee from your next payout, so a refund leaves you even.
Framekit keeps its fee on a refund: $1.45 on a $29 sale on Free, $0.87 on Pro and nothing on Business, and Stripe keeps its original processing fee of about $1.14.
How often does Lemon Squeezy pay out compared with Framekit?
Lemon Squeezy creates payouts twice a month, on the 1st and 15th, holds net sales for 13 days and pays on the 14th and 28th, with a $50 minimum.
Framekit's money goes straight into your Stripe account, and Stripe typically makes the first payout 7 to 14 days after your first live payment, then pays out on your account's schedule, which can be daily.
Who pays for chargebacks on Lemon Squeezy and Framekit?
On Lemon Squeezy you pay the refunded amount minus its platform fee plus a $15 dispute fee, and Lemon Squeezy argues the case.
On Framekit the dispute arrives in your Stripe account, Stripe takes the amount plus a $15 dispute fee for US accounts, and you respond there, with a further $15 countered fee returned only if you win.
Does Framekit handle VAT like Lemon Squeezy?
No. Lemon Squeezy is the merchant of record and collects and remits VAT and sales tax for you.
Framekit charges buyers through your own Stripe account, does not calculate or add tax at checkout, and leaves every tax registration and filing with you.
If you sell into the EU from outside it, that difference alone can justify Lemon Squeezy.
Can I sell subscriptions or license keys on Framekit?
No. Framekit's store sells one-off digital downloads only, with no subscriptions, memberships, license keys, pay-what-you-want pricing, affiliates, upsells or abandoned-cart emails.
Lemon Squeezy offers all of those, which makes it the better tool for software and recurring products.
Do buyers get updated files automatically?
On Lemon Squeezy, yes: new files you add to a product appear in existing customers' My Orders pages. On Framekit, no: updated files are not pushed to past buyers, and order email links last 7 days, so you resend fresh links or email past buyers yourself when a new version ships.
Is the Framekit checkout on my own domain?
No. Your Framekit site can run on your own domain from the Starter plan, but the payment page always opens at framekit.ai/buy with your name and logo and a "Powered by Framekit" line, on every plan.
Lemon Squeezy's checkout is hosted by Lemon Squeezy or shown as an overlay on your site.
Can I use Lemon Squeezy checkout on a Framekit site?
Yes. Any Framekit button can link to a Lemon Squeezy checkout URL on any plan, and the Lemon Squeezy overlay script needs custom code, which Framekit allows from Pro.
That split gives you Framekit's site with Lemon Squeezy's tax handling, at the cost of paying both and sending buyers to a second brand at checkout.
Lemon Squeezy vs Gumroad vs Framekit: which should a template seller pick?
A template seller who wants tax handled should pick Lemon Squeezy over Gumroad, because 5% plus $0.50 with processing included is cheaper than Gumroad's 10% plus $0.50 plus processing.
A template seller with their own audience and more than about $1,100 a month in sales should pick Framekit Business, which is cheaper than both and includes a site.
Our Gumroad vs Framekit comparison prices the third pairing.
Final Verdict
Choose Lemon Squeezy if you want tax handled worldwide, sell subscriptions, licences or through affiliates, or sell less than about $1,100 a month, because in all three cases it is either the only one of the two that can do the job or the cheaper one, and it is a polished checkout today.
Choose Framekit if you sell one-off downloads to your own audience above that line, because the Business plan's 0% fee saves about $300 a year at $2,000 a month and about $1,300 at $5,000, and because the store comes inside a portfolio site with client galleries, review and decks on the same account.
Where Framekit loses is everything a merchant of record does: it does not file your VAT or sales tax, does not fight disputes for you, does not keep a buyer account for re-downloads, and does not sell recurring products.
The trade-off is margin and a website against tax admin, and Lemon Squeezy's own migration plans are now part of that weighing.
